University of Basrah Holds Workshop on Climate Change and Its Health Implications

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah organized a workshop entitled “The Impact of Climate Change on Animal and Human Health.”

Delivered by lecturer Sara Salem Mohammed, the workshop explored the concept of climate change, its global and local causes, and its direct and indirect effects on both animal and human health. It also addressed the challenges confronting livestock production and the rise in zoonotic and shared diseases.

The event highlighted the vital role of veterinarians in safeguarding human and animal health within the framework of the “One Health” approach and underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration between veterinary and environmental institutions to mitigate the consequences of climate change.
