A seminar was held in the college of vet med at the uni of Basrah discussed some pathological changes in the liver of sheep. The speaker, Ms. Sanaa K. Kadhum had mentioned the gross lesions, hematological changes, biochemical analysis, and histopathology of hepatic abscess in sheep. Seventy samples were collected in that study including 60 samples with abscess and 10 samples as control.
The study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of these lesions and to show the pathological features associated with their occurrence. In addition, the study aimed to discover the hematological and the biochemical changes related with the lesions. The ideal screening for liver abscesses is a major economic problem and there is very little information related to liver abscesses in sheep in Iraq.
The researcher recommended conducting a microbiological, molecular, and superior structural study of pathological changes associated with the main causes of sheep liver abscess in Iraq. Comparative pathological and microbiological studies of liver abscesses between sheep and goats were also recommended. Finally, a recommendation to the Basra Slaughterhouse Authority to establish a restricted examination protocol before granting sheep slaughtering.
