Basrah University Organizes a Scientific Visit to the Basrah Environment Department
The College of Veterinary Medicine at Basrah University organized a visit to the Department of Environmental Protection and Improvement in the Southern Region as part of a series of scientific and awareness activities for fifth-year students.
The visit aimed to familiarize students with how institutions monitor pollution, protect individuals, and introduce them to specialized techniques for environmental preservation.
The visit included a tour of the specialized laboratories within the Department of Environmental Protection and Improvement, where students learned about the mechanisms used to test pollution levels of heavy metals and detect pathogenic causes in water.
During the visit, the department’s director, Dr. Walid Al-Moussawi, emphasized the importance of environmental awareness, highlighting the challenges faced by their work, as well as the role of factories and companies in polluting air and water. He also stressed the significance of afforestation and urban planting in significantly reducing pollution. Additionally, he addressed climate change impacts, which have led to the extinction of some wild animals, along with the increasing rates of illegal hunting.
