Genetic Strains of Newcastle Disease Virus

University of Basrah Records Genetic Strains of Newcastle Disease Virus for the First Time in Iraq

A research team from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah comprising Dr. Walid Majed Seger, Dr. Ali Abbood Issa, and Katherine Bandar Faraj has recorded a new genetic strain of the Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) in the Global GenBank for the first time in Iraq and Basrah. The strain has been recorded under the accession number GenBank: PV254536.1.

The team successfully isolated multiple viral strains of NDV from white broiler chickens in Basrah. After conducting thorough genetic analysis and classification, these strains were officially submitted and preserved as reference strains in the Global GenBank.
