University of Basrah Leads in Recording the First Strain of Bacillus cereus
A research team from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah, consisting of Dr. Suzan Abdul Jabbar Abdul Aziz, Dr. Aliaa Sabti Jassim, and fifth-year student Janat Khalid Nouri, has recorded the first strain (H1) of Bacillus cereus at both the national and provincial levels in Iraq.
The team isolated the bacteria from canned cat food, obtaining six isolates, which were identified using genetic techniques and matched with strains in the global gene bank. The strain was classified as H1 and has been preserved with a reference number in the global GenBank: PV262333.
