University of Basrah Organizes a Scientific Symposium on Aquatic Biodiversity

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah organized a scientific symposium on aquatic biodiversity in light of the increasing saline tide.

The symposium aimed to introduce the concept of biodiversity as a key factor in the growth of sustainable development, depending on the environment—whether terrestrial or aquatic—and to highlight endangered species in the city of Basrah and across Iraq.

The symposium, presented by Dr. Suzan Abdul Jabbar Abdulaziz and Dr. Batool Hussein Hatim, addressed the causes of rising salinity in river waters and its effects on the growth patterns of aquatic organisms. It also clarified methods to limit the expansion of saline intrusion and emphasized the importance of concerted scientific, academic, and governmental efforts to address this issue.
