Scientific Study from the University of Basrah Reveals Two Types of Lice Infesting Local Goats

A recent study conducted by Dr. Suzan Abdul Jabbar and Dr. Nadia Kathem from the College of Veterinary Medicine, along with Dr. Huda Shakir from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah, has identified two types of lice infesting local goats in Basrah Province one of which was recorded for the first time in the region.
The study was published in the Open Veterinary Journal, which is indexed in Scopus (Q2 ranking). It involved the isolation, identification, and classification of Biting lice and Sucking lice
A significant scientific contribution of the study was the discovery of a new lice species not previously documented in Basrah.
Study Recommendations:
Intensify research efforts to identify emerging parasitic species in the region.
Develop effective strategies to combat these parasites due to the harm they cause to livestock.
