University of Basrah Organizes a Symposium on Ways to Control Stray Animals

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah organized a scientific symposium titled “Proper Methods for Reducing and Controlling Stray Animals”, in cooperation with the Veterinarians Syndicate in Basrah, with the participation of several specialists and animal welfare advocates.

The symposium included a lecture by Dr. Kamal Al-Din Muhalhal, who explained that old legislations stipulating the killing of stray animals are considered inhumane. He emphasized that veterinarians have a responsibility to seek alternative solutions for sheltering these animals instead of killing them.

Dr. Nasir Sadiq, Director of the Spring of Life Organization, stressed the importance of humane treatment of stray animals and called for spreading a culture of compassion and awareness against random killing.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the College, Dr. Jalal Yaseen Mustafa, highlighted the need for humane and compassionate solutions in dealing with stray animals. He noted that the increasing number of stray animals poses a real challenge to society and requires joint cooperation among concerned authorities to develop effective mechanisms that achieve environmental balance and preserve public safety.
