University of Basrah Explores Magnesium Deficiency in Buffalo and Its Effects on Health and Productivity

A recent master’s thesis at the University of Basrah examined “Magnesium Deficiency in Buffalo and Its Impact on Health and Production in the Northern Basrah Region.”

The research, conducted by Jumana Abdul-Ridha Abdul-Hassan, focused on diagnosing magnesium deficiency using clinical evaluations and biochemical analyses. It also explored the correlation between magnesium levels and other minerals, and assessed how this deficiency affects vital signs and various hematological parameters.

The study emphasized the importance of strengthening routine magnesium monitoring programs for buffalo in Basrah Governorate, improving herd nutritional and mineral management, and implementing field-based veterinary awareness initiatives to reduce economic losses and enhance livestock productivity.
