University of Basrah Organizes a Seminar on the Dangers of Drugs

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah organized an awareness seminar on the impact of drugs on young people.

The seminar aimed to educate students about the risks of drug use and its health, psychological, and social consequences, as well as to enhance awareness of the dangers this phenomenon poses to families and society.

The seminar, presented by lecturers Ashwaq Jabbar Aboud and Lamia Subhi Nasser from the Counseling Center, discussed the definition and types of drugs, highlighting the main causes of drug use, including family disintegration and negative peer influence. The lecturers also reviewed the health, psychological, and social harms resulting from drug abuse.

The seminar emphasized key methods of treatment and prevention, such as practicing sports activities, reading, avoiding isolation, and reporting drug-use cases.

The event concluded with recommendations to intensify awareness workshops, enhance the role of families, and enforce strict measures against drug dealers.
