Participation of specialists... University of Basrah discusses the scientific solutions of the free-ranging dogs’ phenomenon 
College of Veterinary Medicine, the University of Basrah has organized a specialized symposium on “Strategies to Reduce the distribution of free-ranging dogs,” with the aim of developing a scientific road map to confront this increment phenomenon.
The symposium aimed to explain the health and environmental hazards resulting from the increasing a number of free-ranging dogs in residential areas, and to discuss the mechanisms to mitigate this phenomenon in a way that ascertain public safety and biological balance.
The symposium included scientific lectures were presented by academic staff from the Department of Surgery and Obstetrics. They reviewed the solutions are used globally and the procedures for implementation, requesting the government directions that rely on academic visions to address societal crises with thoughtful humanitarian and scientific methods.
The symposium recommended the need to adopt sustainable scientific programs, including establishing shelter centres, implementing comprehensive vaccination and immunization campaigns, in addition to strengthening government coordination and community awareness to lower the risks of this phenomenon and ensure environmental balance.
