University of Basrah Organizes a Workshop on Small Animal Dissection
The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah organized a workshop entitled “Methods of Small Animal Dissection and Preparation of Histological Sections.”
The workshop aimed to equip participants with scientific and practical skills in small animal dissection and the preparation of histological sections, with a focus on proper techniques for sample collection and animal handling to ensure accurate diagnostic results in medical and veterinary research.
The workshop included theoretical lectures delivered by faculty members from the Department of Anatomy and Histology. These lectures covered the identification of small animals, methods of restraint and control, injection techniques, blood collection methods, preparation of animals for euthanasia, and how to begin the dissection process and its objectives .
On the second day, the workshop featured a practical component in the histology laboratory, where instructors provided hands-on explanations on how to prepare and euthanize animals in an applied setting.
The workshop recommended the continuation of practical training in dissection and histological preparation, staying updated with the latest methods in this field, and encouraging postgraduate students to participate in conducting innovative scientific research.
