University of Basrah Organizes Workshop on Health Awareness and Its Role in Reducing Zoonotic Diseases
The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah organized a scientific workshop highlighting the direct relationship between community health awareness and reducing the spread of zoonotic diseases, as well as the role of health education in strengthening community-based prevention.
The workshop featured a series of lectures delivered by a distinguished group of faculty members from the College. The lectures addressed major zoonotic diseases, their modes of transmission, and various methods of prevention and control.
The speakers also emphasized the importance of integration and cooperation between health and veterinary institutions in protecting public health. They pointed out that raising health awareness represents a fundamental pillar in implementing the “One Health” approach, which recognizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health.
The workshop concluded with recommendations to intensify awareness and educational programs and activities targeting different segments of society, strengthen collaboration among the academic, health, and veterinary sectors, and promote health literacy to reduce the risks and impacts of zoonotic diseases.
