A PhD Dissertation at the University of Basrah Investigates the Preventive and Therapeutic Effects of Nano-Propolis
A PhD dissertation at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basrah, entitled "Preventive and Therapeutic Effects of Propolis and Nano-Propolis on Aluminum Chloride-Induced Testicular Toxicity," was successfully defended.
The dissertation, presented by Abrar Salman Abdulrazzaq, aimed to evaluate the preventive and therapeutic effects of conventional propolis and nano-propolis in reducing the damage caused by aluminum chloride to the male reproductive system.
The study included an evaluation of the gene expression of Bax and Bcl-2, two genes associated with programmed cell death (apoptosis). In addition, it assessed physiological and biochemical parameters, oxidative stress markers, reproductive hormones, semen quality parameters, and histopathological changes.
The findings demonstrated the successful preparation of nano-propolis while preserving its biological properties. Both conventional propolis and nano-propolis effectively reduced testicular toxicity and improved testicular function, reproductive hormone levels, semen quality, and gene expression. However, nano-propolis showed superior performance over conventional propolis in most of the evaluated parameters.
