A PhD thesis at the University of Basrah explored the genetic diversity of Helicobacter pylori.

The thesis, conducted at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah, investigated the genetic diversity of H. pylori and its virulence factors among humans, cats, and dogs, and examined their similarities.

This thesis, submitted by PhD student Kareem Khudair Kareem, aimed to clarify genetic diversity and zoonotic transmission between humans and animals by analyzing bacterial virulence factors such as bacterial toxins and alleles.

Using over 260 animal samples and 100 human samples, the thesis concluded that there is a possibility of transmission of H. pylori between animals and humans, contributing to gastric infections in humans.
