Master's Thesis at the University of Basrah Investigates the Effects of Prolactin Stimulants and Melatonin Implants on Fertility in Female Cats
A Master's thesis at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basrah, investigated the physiological evaluation of the effects of prolactin stimulants (Domperidone) and melatonin implants on fertility in female Persian cats.
The study, presented by researcher Baneen Falih Suwaid Ali, examined several physiological, hematological, and biochemical parameters, lipid profiles, and sex hormone levels. It also employed vaginal smears and ultrasonographic examinations of the ovaries and uterus to diagnose cases of estrus synchronization and anestrus.
The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the treatments in suppressing the estrous cycle and inhibiting reproductive activity safely, representing a promising alternative to costly surgical procedures.
The thesis recommended expanding further research and applying these approaches to dogs as a potentially safe option that preserves the animal's life.
