Crimean–Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF)

University of Basra Hosts Seminar on Crimean–Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF)

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basra held a dialogue seminar focused on Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF), attended by a broad academic audience.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness about CCHF, its causative virus, transmission pathways from animals to humans, and strategies for prevention and containment.

Presentations delivered by faculty members covered the prevalence of the disease across Iraq, with particular emphasis on Basra. Topics included vector control methods, protective measures for individuals in direct contact with animals—such as veterinarians, butchers, and meat consumers—and recent scientific findings related to the disease and its prevention.

The seminar concluded with recommendations emphasizing the importance of coordinated efforts among the University of Basra, the veterinary hospital, and local authorities. These include launching public education and awareness initiatives, as well as implementing therapeutic measures like the regular spraying of animals and their habitats.
