Master’s Thesis Investigates Ringworm Diagnosis in Cats

Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Investigates Ringworm Diagnosis in Cats
A master’s thesis at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basrah, conducted a comprehensive clinical and diagnostic investigation into ringworm infections in cats in Basrah Governorate.
The study, submitted by graduate student Noor Al-Huda Khalaf Abdul Rahman, focused on documenting and analyzing cases of fungal skin diseases affecting cats across the region.
The thesis consisted of four chapters, addressing patterns of infection—particularly among male cats and kittens under nine months of age—the diagnostic value of Wood’s lamp examination, and the role of molecular techniques in clarifying the epidemiology of the disease.
The research emphasized the importance of strengthening molecular and epidemiological studies in Iraq. It also called for increased public awareness among cat owners and the adoption of unified national control programs to limit disease transmission, especially in young cats.
