University of Basrah Organizes Workshop on the Causes of Disease Spread and the Impact of Nutrition

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah organized a scientific workshop focusing on the factors contributing to the spread of common diseases and the role of nutrition in maintaining health and strengthening the immune system.

The workshop highlighted how changes in modern dietary habits, particularly the increasing reliance on fast foods and unhealthy dietary patterns, may contribute to the growing prevalence of various health problems despite increased levels of health awareness.

The workshop also addressed the potential health risks associated with the repeated recycling of fats and oils, as well as excessive consumption of sugars and unnecessary use of antibiotics. These factors may negatively affect the beneficial microorganisms in the intestinal microbiota and, consequently, interfere with normal immune function and increase susceptibility to disease.

The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations emphasizing the importance of strengthening health and nutritional awareness, promoting balanced and healthy dietary practices, reducing the consumption of potentially harmful substances, and encouraging responsible antibiotic use as important measures for protecting public health.
